Q: When was your company established?
A: August, 1999. Operations started from September, 1999.
Q: Who are the investors?
A: 97 individual investors and venture capitals.
Q: What would happen to our cord blood units in case that your company goes bankrupt?
A: It is our mission to establish our company to last long in order to securely store precious cord blood units. However, in the event of bankrupcy, it is our responsibility to take measure beforehand to ensure cord blood units will be continuously stored at third party company/institution, etc.

Q: Can I use my child's cord blood to treat other person?
A: As long as HLA typing matches, you could use your child’s cord blood to the family members within second degree of kinship, as stated in our contract.
Q: Does my child’s cord blood always matches to the parents and siblings?
A; HLA of the family members match at a higher rate comparing to unrelated individuals. The siblings will match at the highest rate (25%) followed by the parents (0.1%), whereas unrelated individuals’ chance are one out of millions.
Q: How many times can we use the cord blood cells for a treatment? Is it only one time use?
A: We store cord blood cells in a multiple vials for each unit. The number of use depends on the disease or type of transplant. However, the advantage of using in multiple vials to store cord blood cells is that there is a possibility to amplify cells for the future use.
Q: Is there any cases that your company’s cord blood has been used for treatments?.
A: Yes. As the stored units has exceeded 10,000 we are supporting several cases of treatments at major facilities in and out of the country.
Q: How long can you store the stem cells?
A; In the academic field it is expected that the cells maintain their quality semipermanently as long as they are stored in the liquid nitrogen environment. Empirical data is currently being collected, which. So far it shows that the cells maintain their quality for at least 20 years.
Q: Will the hospital where I am going to have a delivery collect cord blood?
A: Please contact us for more details. Even if the hospital has no history of collecting cord blood, they can collect it as long as the doctor agrees.
Q: I am expecting twins. Would there be any change in the contract?
A: In case of Identical twin(mono-embryonic delivery), one contract alone covers all things, however, in case of fraternal twin(polyembriony delivery), we need contract with each baby. If you want to cover both babies of fraternal twin, you are expected to sign two contracts for each (Special discount applicable).
Q: When do I pay the fee?
A: You make a payment after the delivery. We do not take any payment in advance. First, ｔhe collected cord blood will be tested for the cell count. After the test result shows there is enough number of cells to store we issue a bill.
Q: How much do you charge for the extension after the first 10-year contract is over?
A: 73,500 yen for another 10 years of storage. We offer contract renewal for every 10 years.
Q: Can I still sign up even my due date is close? What if I have Caesarean section, or other ways of delivery such as home birth or labor in water?
A: We are prepared for every possible case of delivery. Please contact us in case you have any question.

Q: Is the fee for the cord blood storage considered as tax deductible medical expenses?
A: Not under the current government regulations.
Q: After cord blood is collected at the time of birth, how do you transport it to your facility?
A: Either our staff member or a specialized courier will come over to pick up the cord blood. For those who are in the remote area may be asked to ship the cord blood at our expense.
